Amateur radio, also called ham radio, is a licensed radio service for learning, talking with other licensed people, testing radio ideas, and helping during emergencies. This course teaches the rules and basic skills needed for the FCC Technician license.
FCC means Federal Communications Commission. It is the United States agency that makes and enforces amateur radio rules. A Technician license is the first level of U.S. amateur radio license.
How this course works
Read the lesson introduction. Then move through every teaching slide. Each new radio term is defined in plain language before it is used. At the end of each lesson, take one graded 10-question quiz. You must score at least 80 percent to unlock the next lesson.
There are no duplicate practice-quiz slides. The lesson quiz appears once, after the teaching slides.
What you will learn
The ten teaching lessons cover FCC rules, real radio contacts, radio-wave travel, station controls, basic electricity, electronic parts, troubleshooting, voice and digital modes, antennas, and safety. A final review lesson leads to a graded 35-question readiness exam.
The real Technician exam has 35 questions. You pass with 26 correct. The course follows the official 2026–2030 Technician question pool, including its February 2026 corrections, and current FCC Part 97 rules.
